Our most commonly asked questions...
We only run soft credit checks which means applying won’t affect your credit score. But if you decide to draw down funds from us, the business loan will show up on your credit report.
Yep, some of our customers repay early to save on interest. If you want to make extra repayments or pay off your business loan early we won't charge you any fees. (And don't worry - you’ll never find any sneaky small print surprises with us.)
Even though we offer business loans, we’re not a bank. We’re an independent company custom-built for small businesses – and our goal is to provide straightforward access to finance where and when your business needs it.
It takes 5 minutes to apply and in almost all cases you'll get a decision in 24 hours.
Generally, they put the money to short term investments, like extra stock. Or they use it to help with cash flow, like if they're waiting on an invoice.
With a Flexi-Loan, once you've paid back a third of your original credit limit, applying for a top up is easy. We'll just need updated information about your business.
Yes, our installers are certified members of the Assure Competent Person Scheme. This is peace of mind for homeowners as you can be assured the installation will comply with building regulations.
No, as this certificate is only legally required if the items installed are over 50% glass area. Therefore, none of our door range require this certification.
We can install anywhere in the UK excluding a handful of areas; these include PA/KA/PH/DG/AB/IV, some more remote areas of SA/LL/SY and the Isle of Wight.
The average lead time from order to installation date is 5-6 weeks. We can typically survey within 2-5 days, and the manufacture time of the door is 15 working days.
We ask that customers are present when the surveyor attends for the home survey, as we may need to agree important details regarding floor levels, opening sides etc. We will also need access to the inside of the house.
Every installation is different, and a single door usually takes between 2-4 hours. Installations in older properties may take longer, and we always allow half a day for any install.
You will either be given a morning slot or an afternoon slot when we call to arrange installation. A morning slot means the fitters will arrive between 08.00-13.00. For afternoon slots the fitters will arrive between 13.00-17.00.
These time slots allow for traffic and also over-running on other jobs – unfortunately we are unable to provide specific times on the day.
We may be able to offer Saturday installations in certain postcodes, however please note you may need to wait a little longer as we have limited teams available on weekends.
Yes - we will take it away and recycle it. If you want to keep your existing door we must be told prior to the installation date so that we can make the fitting team aware
Our guarantees do not cover any electric work, and this would need to be done by an alarm engineer. However, if we are just required to relocate wires we can usually carry this out as a goodwill gesture.
Yes – inevitable damage is common when removing an old door (especially on older properties) and we will make good any damage to render, plaster or brickwork up to a 2 inch radius. Please note making good means that we will patch up any damaged areas but this does not include painting. Full details of what is included is detailed in our terms and conditions.
The main benefit is that this guarantee covers you for the 10 year duration, even if Aluminium Composite Doors (GFD Trading LTD) were to cease trading. This is peace of mind for many of our customers and acts as another layer of protection, in the unlikely event you encounter an issue with your products in years to come.
The price you are quoted for the items selected will never change. However, there are some additional costs that can sometimes be incurred after the home survey. This is because sometimes there are additional works that are required that we will not be aware of until we have visited your property. Some examples of this can include:
Any additional costs such as these will be discussed with you after your survey, and unless they are essential to the job being carried out, are at your discretion

Door & Frame - 10 years

Yes - all of our Designer doors come pre-hung in a 70mm aluminium outer frame. If you’ve ordered the same colour door and frame, this is a perfect colour and finish match which is not possible with composite doors.
Exact U values vary depending on design, but the majority of Smart Designer doors fall between 1.3-1.5 U value. Some traditional designs may have a higher U value, please speak to our sales team if you have a specific requirement.
Our doors are no different to fit to any other door hung in an outer frame, which means they require skill and care. Many customers will source their own installer, and some even install themselves if they have experience or are competent DIY’ers.
We provide installation guides and 4 air bags to assist with installation. As aluminium is a robust material, if properly installed there should be no operational issues with the product in years to come, which is perhaps not the case with timber, composite or uPVC.
If you’re not able to install yourself, or perhaps just don’t want the hassle and would prefer a robust 5 year installation guarantee, then our survey and installation service is the perfect option. In this case we take care of everything - we even send one of our trained surveyors to come and measure the door for you.
The main reason many double glazing installers are now favouring aluminium over composite doors is that the product is almost impervious to seasonal movement - otherwise known as bowing. Whilst composite doors are a great product, they are notorious for seasonal movement during hot and cold weather, which can often lead to operation issues such as door dropping and catching. Our doors simply do not have this issue, which is why we offer an impressive ‘no bow guarantee’.
Some other notable benefits of aluminium doors over composite are:
Finish depends on the colour range you choose - we recommend customers go for a textured finish. Many companies offer this as a premium upgrade, but we offer this at no extra cost. The textured finish has a more premium, high end look, is more resistant to scratches and is very UV resistant. The textured finish is available on bespoke RAL colours, Creations range, Sensations range and selected colours from the Naturals range.
No, all doors are bespoke and made to measure. This ensures the doors meet your exact requirements, as all openings are slightly different.
Yes - we have several doors on display at our head office in Stockton on Tees. We can also arrange appointments at the Smart showroom which is near Bristol.
Showroom visits are by appointment only, so please contact us to arrange.
Both door ranges are stunning, so here are a few guidelines to help you choose:
Yes - our aluminium composite doors are coated with marine grade paint as standard, which makes them suitable for coastal properties. Unlike many other suppliers, we do not charge extra for this.
No way - Our doors are designed to be maintenance free save for cleaning and a yearly drop of oil on the moving parts. We also give an impressive 25 year paint guarantee on the finish of your door.
All of our doors come with 3 keys as standard, but more can be provided upon request.
Smart Signature doors are 60mm thick - that's 36% thicker than a standard composite door for improved security, noise reduction and energy efficiency.
Door & Frame - 10 years
Paint - 25 years
Door Furniture - 15 Years Stainless Steel Hardware, 10 Years Standard Hardware
Locking systems - 15 Years Stainless Steel Hardware, 10 Years Standard Hardware
Cylinder - 15 Years Stainless Steel Hardware, 10 Years Standard Hardware
Glass - 5 years
Installation (if selected) - 5 years
In addition to the above, we also offer a ‘No Bow Guarantee’. That means if there ever was a failure on the door due to bowing, we will replace and fit for free!
The ‘No Bow Guarantee’ is offered with every Smart Signature door, as we are so confident that our doors do not bow or warp like composite doors can. Warping or bowing is caused by seasonal movement in hot or cold months, a normal occurrence which is the door material reacting to changes in temperature. If you have a dark coloured door that gets a lot of sunlight during the day, you may have experienced the door catching or needing an extra shove later in the day? This is seasonal movement at work. Composite doors are particularly prone to this, and in some cases it can cause real headaches with the operation of the door.
Due to the construction of our doors from pure aluminium, precision engineering and high quality locks and hinges, our doors are guaranteed not to bow (or we fit and replace for free).
Yes, all of our Signature doors come pre-hung in a 60mm aluminium outer frame. If you’ve ordered the same colour door and frame, this is a perfect colour and finish match which is not possible with composite doors.
Exact U values vary depending on design, but the minimum U value of any Smart Signature door is 1.4. This makes the Smart Signature range very energy efficient and suitable for both refurbishment and new build projects.

Our doors are delivered in a unique, state of the art packaging. The door is encased in a large, reinforced box that is easily carried horizontally with handles. This makes it much safer and easier to handle and move than trying to carry a door vertically. We include all parts within the box, so there is no risk of loose items going missing in the van. Finally, we fit every box with a shock dot, which will flash red if the box has been banged or dropped. This again gives you total peace of mind that your door has not been mishandled. A premium product deserves a premium delivery!
We prefer not to leave our goods on site unattended, for the obvious reason that they are expensive, high quality items. We also require you to receive the goods so they can be checked and signed for.
